Marcell Coetzee’s recall to the Springboks is inevitable on the back of his “outstanding” form for the Vodacom Bulls, says director of rugby Jake White.
Coetzee has been one of the most impressive South African players in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship, and the Bulls skipper was crucial in getting his team over the line in their 29-24 win over Munster on Saturday.
He hasn’t always had the best of luck when it comes to the Boks, with injuries often ruling the versatile loose forward out of selection.
Coetzee was, though, strangely overlooked by the national selectors when the Boks lost Duane Vermeulen and Pieter-Steph du Toit at key moments in 2021.
“He was outstanding on Saturday again, wasn’t he?” White said of Coetzee’s efforts for the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld this past weekend. “His time will come. I’ve said to him his time would come.
“There’s a lot of rugby still to be played and the only way you’re going to make it is if you keep banging the door down like he does every week and then the door will open.”
