Coach Neil Powell summarises the Blitzboks’ performance on day one of the Spain Sevens, while there is doubt over the availability of injured skipper Siviwe Soyizwapi for the rest of the tournament.
Soyizwapi was injured during his team’s 27-7 win over Scotland when he was recklessly and deliberately tackled around the neck after scoring a try.
He stayed down after the hit, clutching his left shoulder. He was replaced at the time.
The severity of the injury has not yet been determined and a call on whether he plays on day two (Saturday), when South Africa take on England, will be made closer to the time.
Meanwhile, Powell says that while his team’s ability to come from behind to win games is laudable, their first-half display was just not good enough.
