Warriors put Bears to the sword

The Worcester Warriors scored seven tries to hammer the Bristol Bears 52-7 while there were also English Premiership wins for Gloucester, Saracens, the Sale Sharks, Leicester Tigers and Exeter Chiefs.

In the late kick-off on Sunday, the Warriors produced their performance of the season to swat aside Bristol for a win that eclipsed their previous biggest victory in the competition.

Despite the Bears threatening to silence the home crowd early on when Yann Thomas gave the visitors a good start with a try, the Warriors simply blew the Bears away as GJ van Velze, Marco Mama, Ryan Mills and Francois Venter all crossed before the break.

The game, which was watched by England coach Eddie Jones, started to get ugly in the second half as the hosts took just three minutes to score through Chris Pennell, with Josh Adams adding to the lead with an intercept try.

Warriors replacement prop Ryan Bower then had a moment of madness as he was shown a red card for a shoulder charge on Bears centre Will Hurrell. However, it mattered little, as Bryce Heem touched down late on to complete the rout.

Meanwhile, Johan Ackermann’s Gloucester got back on track with a 35-21 win against Wasps, a victory inspired by a brace from wing Charlie Sharples. Gloucester flyhalf Danny Cipriani also sent a message to his former side, kicking three penalties and three conversions for a personal haul of 15 points.

In other results, both Saracens and the Exeter Chiefs kept their unbeaten runs intact by beating Harlequins and Bath respectively, the Sale Sharks came from a 7-3 half-time deficit to beat the Newcastle Falcons 20-7 in a basement battle while the Leicester Tigers survived a second-half comeback from the Northampton Saints for a 23-15 win.

Round 6 results:

Worcester Warriors 52 Bristol Bears 7
Harlequins 20 Saracens 25
Wasps 21 Gloucester 35
Sale Sharks 20 Newcastle Falcons 7
Northampton Saints 15 Leicester Tigers 23
Bath 24 Exeter Chiefs 39
