Matt Giteau has slammed the RFU for giving Eddie Jones the boot, claiming that the outgoing head coach had big plans for England’s 2023 World Cup title bid.
England rugby’s top brass officially confirmed the dismissal of Jones on Tuesday, ending the Australian’s seven-year tenure in charge of the Roses.
The 62-year-old ends his stay with a 73% win record, more than any other England coach. During his reign, the Roses reached the 2019 World Cup final and won three Six Nations titles, including a Grand Slam in 2016.
Australia great Giteau, who starred under Jones for the Wallabies, has hit out at England’s decision to sack his former boss.
If Eddie Jones gets sacked it would have to be the silliest thing they could do to the English rugby team. He plans & plans & plans years in advance for this competition. It’s the one competition that he has got consistently right time and time again. Big mistake imo ???♂️
