Waratahs playmaker Ben Donaldson will reportedly join the Australian national squad as they prepare to face the Springboks in Adelaide on Saturday.
According to Fox Sports Australia, the former Junior Wallabies star was called up on Sunday by Australia coach Dave Rennie, who suggested last week that a young flyhalf would join the team, after having recalled veteran Bernard Foley.
It’s unlikely that Donaldson will line up against the Boks on Saturday, but the 23-year-old is still excited to be a part of the national setup.
“There’s a bit of an opportunity. I’m pretty excited to go up and get around the boys and get some experience. It’s just training, getting in that environment and see where it goes from there,” he told Fox Sports.
His call-up comes after the highly experienced Laurie Fisher joined the Wallabies coaching staff in an interim capacity for the Rugby Championship.
