Wales No 8 Josh Navidi has been ruled out of the World Cup because of a hamstring injury.

Navidi was forced off in the first half of Wales’ tense quarter-final against France on Sunday and was replaced by Ross Moriarty.

On Monday, outgoing Wales coach Warren Gatland confirmed that the dreadlocked eighthman will take no further part in the tournament.

‘He’ll be ruled out, he’s no good,’ Gatland said. ‘It’s disappointing for him and for us to have a player ruled out. But we’ll keep him out here. It will be nice for him to stay out for the next couple of weeks. He’ll obviously lose his accreditation.’

Gatland also confirmed he won’t be bringing in another loose forward, instead opting to replace Navidi with a backline player although a decision on who will be called up has not been made.

‘These games are so physical to have only lost one player is a real positive for us. We’ve been pretty lucky, we’re trying to keep everyone as healthy as we possibly can. We’ll be looking to bring in a replacement tomorrow but we’ve got to through that process.’

Wales take on the Springboks in the second semi-final on Sunday.
