Wales skipper Dan Biggar is questionable for the third and final Test against the Springboks in Cape Town after the flyhalf suffered a shoulder injury during their historic series-levelling victory in Bloemfontein.

Wayne Pivac may be forced into one or two changes for the Test series decider after Wales suffered a couple of key injuries in a 13-12 win over the Springboks, their first victory in South Africa.

Biggar, who has led Wales superbly throughout the series, is the major concern after being forced off in the 50th minute at the Free State Stadium with a problem right shoulder.

The 32-year-old tried to play on, but was in clear discomfort as he missed a shot at goal before being replaced by Gareth Anscombe, who kicked the winning penalty in the 78th minute.

“Yeah, shoulder, a bit of a squashed AC joint. I took a bit of an early bang on it, and then there was an early contact in the second half where I’ve just been caught at the bottom of a ruck, and was sort of in a bit of pain with it,” said Biggar after the match.

“Hopefully, it’s just a bang and nothing more and it’ll sort of ease up in the next couple of days and I’ll be available for selection next Saturday.

“I’ll try my best to get fit. A couple more Castle Lites and I may be fit for Saturday, so we’ll see how many of them work. Obviously, I’ll be desperate to be involved next Saturday, and we’ll just see.”

Wales’ depth at tighthead prop suffered another blow after Dillon Lewis was seen after the match with his arm in a sling. The 26-year-old is the most experienced tighthead left in the squad. The other two tightheads are Sam Wainwright, who made a solid debut off the bench in Bloemfontein, and uncapped Harry O’Connor.

Wales have previously dismissed the suggestion of loosehead Wyn Jones covering tighthead, as he did during the 2019 World Cup, but may be forced to change their minds for the series decider.
