Turftech, together with its international technical partner Rhino-Turf, have built and installed South Africa’s 1st full-size synthetic rugby field in full compliance with international standards & certified by World Rugby at Curro Durbanville just outside Cape Town.
This same Rhino-Turf system was used in Africa’s 1st World Rugby-certified synthetic rugby field with another Curro school being Curro Windhoek Gymnasium.
Turftech CEO, Len Ludick, indicated “we are super proud to have installed South Africa’s first synthetic rugby field, especially with the current water situation in South Africa and this is another first for Turftech after installing South Africa’s first synthetic cricket oval as well as South Africa’s first full-size synthetic turf running track for school level use”.
The turf supplier, Rhino-Turf International Sales Director, Willliam Allan said “the Rhino name is very well known in the rugby world with the Rhino Rugby brand having been the equipment supplier to the last 4 World Cups as well as being the equipment supplier to most of the top tier rugby nations including the Springboks, All-Blacks and England”.
Synthetic rugby fields are becoming more common place in the English Premiership as well as in other parts of Europe and the latest turf technology with an integrated RootZone protection layer offers infill stability, reducing infill splash and more uniform playing surface. A SAFER system for the player as well as the environment with continued STRENGTH IN PERFORMANCE.
Andries Greyling, CEO of Curro, said: “We’ve established, over the years, that trying to maintain a rugby field in the Western Cape is quite difficult. By putting down a field like this, we are giving our learners better support, and a better field to look forward to. It’s been an amazing project that was well-managed and well-communicated. The field is certified for international games, and I’m proud to be part of this project.”
