Recent signing Clayton Blommetjies has promised to kick less than incumbent Stormers fullback Warrick Gelant when he joins the Cape side next season.
The Cheetahs playmaker is set to replace Gelant, who will reportedly join Racing 92 in France at the end of the current campaign.
Blommetjies has played for the Cheetahs in the PRO14, represented the Vodacom Bulls, and had stints with Scarlets and Leicester Tigers in the UK.
The exciting brand of rugby played by the Stormers will suit the 31-year-old, who told media at the launch of the 2022 Champions Match he is ready to make his mark for John Dobson’s men.
“For me, it’s not to be like Warrick. He’s his own guy and I’m my own guy. We’re two totally different players,” Blommetjies said.
“Warrick sometimes likes to kick the ball where I would prefer to run the ball, so we’re different players.
“If you’re a fullback, you’d really want to play behind the Stormers pack with those Springboks there. You can have fun on the field and it’s tries for days.”
He has had rough go of late with a spate of injuries, and has missed most of the Cheetahs’ eight-match winning streak in the Currie Cup.
“I’ve won two Currie Cups with them, so it’s now time for me to move on. It’s something new and different for me,” the utility back added. “I’m really looking forward to the move to Cape Town.”
