Springbok lock RG Snyman has extended his contract with Munster until 2024, the Irish club announced on Wednesday.
He is one of five players – alongside Stephen Archer, Roman Salanoa, Liam O’Connor and Scott Buckley – to pen new long-term deals with the club.
The South African joined the Irish province in 2020, but his career at Munster is yet to take flight as he has been plagued by a series of injuries since his arrival in Limerick.
Just seven minutes into his debut in 2020, he ruptured his ACL and had played only a handful of minutes this season before suffering a repeat of the same injury. As a result, Snyman has not featured for South Africa since the World Cup final in 2019.
But the Munster hierarchy has kept faith in the lock and awarded him a two-year contract extension, which will run until the end of the European season in 2024.
The club’s official statement on Snyman’s decision to extend his contract, read:
World Cup-winning Springbok RG Snyman has signed a two-year deal that will see him remain with the province until at least June 2024. Despite enduring a difficult time with injuries since arriving at the province in the summer of 2020, the 26-year-old is well settled at his Limerick base.
An out-and-out leader, he is highly regarded across the squad and already in four short appearances he has managed to display his athleticism and skill set, including a first try scored against the Stormers in Thomond Park.
