Reports from Australia suggest that Will Skelton is among the three Europe-based players who will be selected in the Wallabies squad for their end-of-year tour.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, La Rochelle lock Skelton, Toulouse’s Rory Arnold and Stade Francais hooker Tolu Latu are all set to be named in the squad for the Tests against Scotland, England and Wales.

Skelton, who was nominated for European Player of the Year in May, last played for the Wallabies in 2017 as Rugby Australia’s cap on selecting overseas-based players prevented him from adding to his 64 Test caps when he joined Saracens.

The 29-year-old will significantly boost Australia’s second-row stocks, especially as he is expected to be joined in the squad by fellow France-based lock Rory Arnold, who has starred for Toulouse over the past couple of seasons.

Skelton spoke to AFP about his potential selection last week.

“Obviously, not being eligible is tough, not being able to put your hand up to play,” he said.

“If the opportunity does come along I’ll definitely put my hand up. You can see how well they’re playing at the moment, and you miss that environment, the international field.

“You almost ask yourself if you’ve still got it and are good enough. You want to test yourself against the best. It would be awesome to link up. If it happens, it happens.”

Wallabies head coach Dave Rennie is expected to name his squad on Friday.
