The two Springbok No 12s will have influential roles to play for their teams in Saturday's big Vodacom Super Rugby match at Loftus Versfeld, writes JON CARDINELLI.
Frans Steyn has been in brilliant form of late, as have the Sharks. His long-range goal-kicking has given the Durban side another weapon, and is sure to be deployed on the Highveld this weekend. Steyn to goal a penalty from 65m out? You wouldn't bet against it.
The Sharks No 12 has been just as prominent in general play, proving a physical defender and ball-carrier. Any momentum the Sharks forwards generate this Saturday will be amplified by Steyn in midfield.
That said, the Bulls will be favourites at the lineout, and this could provide the platform for men such as Jan Serfontein to flourish.
The versatile centre has proved difficult to tackle, and won't mind running at the formidable form of Steyn. Serfontein's speed and footwork make him doubly dangerous and the Sharks defence should not take him lightly. He's a handful when the Bulls employ their direct approach, and especially effective on the counter-attack.
It will be interesting to see which of these two Bok centres comes out on top.
