Scotland call up Steyn for Six Nations

Published on January 15, 2020

Former Griquas captain Kyle Steyn has been included in Scotland’s squad for the upcoming Six Nations tournament.

The Glasgow Warriors wing has been in impressive form this season and is one of six uncapped players in coach Gregor Townsend’s 38-man squad.

Steyn will join fellow South Africans WP Nel, Cornell du Preez and Allan Dell in the squad, which also includes former Border Bulldogs wing Byron McGuigan.

The in-form Huw Jones, who previously represented the Stormers in Vodacom Super Rugby, has earned a Test recall after being omitted from Scotland’s World Cup squad.

Exeter Chiefs fullback Stuart Hogg will take over the captaincy duties from hooker Stuart McInally, who led the side to a disappointing pool-stage exit at last year’s global showpiece in Japan.

McInally keeps his place in the squad with Steyn’s Australian-born wing partner at Glasgow, Ratu Tagive, also in line for a Test debut for his adopted country.

The Johannesburg-born Steyn, who qualifies for Scotland through his Scottish-born mother Gillian, previously represented the Scotland Sevens team and also played for Maties in the Varsity Cup.
