Schools preview: Farmers clash, Bish-Bosch reaches milestone

The schools rugby calendar will wind down with a final Interschools derby between Boland Landbou and Oakdale, while Bishops and Rondebosch will face off in their 200th derby.

The final derby for the Premier Interschools season takes place on Saturday when the ‘farmers’, Boland Landbou and Oakdale, clash in a massive encounter out in Paarl.

Both schools are rarely out of the top-20 rankings and have produced numerous Craven Week players for their respective provinces over the years.

Matches between them are almost always evenly matched and bring out massive crowds of school supporters and schoolboys rugby fans from around South Africa. The past 10 years have been even with both schools winning five times and losing five times, the last match played in 2019.

Oakdale would love to upset the applecart in Paarl as they have lost the last two encounters and would love nothing better than to stop the rot in their rivals’ own backyard.

The two schools have been playing each other on yearly basis since 1992 and will this year meet for the 28th time.

Staying in the Western Cape, the derby between Bishops and Rondebosch in Cape Town will reach a milestone, as the two schools will face off for the 200th time.

Further north, Monument and Garsfontein will clash in the final of the Noordvaal Cup.
