Saffas Abroad: Coetzee stars in losing cause

Marcell Coetzee on the charge against Leinster PRO14 Saffas Abroad wrap
Published on March 8, 2021

SARugbymag.co.za looks back at the South African players who featured for their respective clubs in the PRO14 this past weekend.

– Munster egded Connacht 20-17 at Thomond Park to book their place in the PRO14 final. Forwards Chris Cloete and Jean Kleyn and centre Damian de Allende turned out for coach Johann van Graan‘s Munster.

– The Glasgow Warriors, featuring prop Oli Kebble, were too good for Italian side Zebre as they chalked up a 31-20 win on the road.

– The Dragons overpowered hosts the Ospreys 31-20 at The Brewery Field. Prop Brok Harris was in the Dragons lineup, while prop Tom Botha and wing Hanno Dirksen did service for Ospreys.

– No 8 Marcell Coetzee and his Ulster teammates slumped to a 38-19 defeat by Leinster, who – like Munster – now hold an unassailable lead at the top of their conference log and advanced to the title-deciding final. Despite his team being on the wrong end of the match result, Coetzee delivered an industrious performance and scored one of Ulster’s three tries.
