– Meanwhile, Springbok dynamo Cheslin Kolbe scored the opening try for Toulon to set up a nail-biting 28-20 win over Castres at Stade Mayol.

– Boks Warrick Gelant and Trevor Nyakane started off the bench opposite fellow World Cup hero Cobus Reinach, in a 38-31 thriller between victorious Racing 92 and Montpellier in Paris.
– Former Cheetahs loose forward Uzair Cassiem bagged a try for Bayonnais during a 24-20 triumph over Perpignan, taking some of the shine off a 10-point haul for fullback Tristan Tedder.
– Hardworking Arno Botha flexed his muscles to help Lyon edge Paloise 31-27, with lock JJ van der Mescht putting in a tireless effort as Stade Francais swept aside Brive 27-0. Jeremy Ward and James Hall were named among the substitutes for the winners.
– On Sunday, outside centre Raymond Rhule featured while wing Dillyn Leyds booted a penalty for La Rochelle, but bragging rights went to Rynhardt Elstadt and his Toulouse teammates following a 26-17 win.

– No 8 Ruan Ackermann scored a five-pointer in a narrow 22-21 victory for Gloucester over London Irish in Brentford on Friday. Inside centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg lined up against his compatriot for the Exiles.

– Louis Schreuder, Aranos Coetzee and Juan Schoeman, along with Bath coach Johann van Graan, enjoyed a 27-14 win over Northampton Saints at The Recreation Ground on Saturday. Former Stormers heavies Juarno Augustus and Dave Ribbans fronted up for the visitors.

– Back-row bruiser Jacques Vermeulen crossed the whitewash in a losing cause as Exeter Chiefs were edged 22-20 by Saracens, with Test-capped halfback Ivan van Zyl playing the full 80 minutes for Sarries.
– And on Sunday, flyhalf Robert du Preez scored nine points from the tee but it wasn’t enough for Sale Sharks, led by Jono Ross, to avoid a 29-13 defeat by Harlequins.
Cobus Wiese and Daniel du Preez were also named in the Sharks starting XV, while Jean-Luc du Preez backed up his brother off the wood.
Andre Esterhuizen and Wilco Louw, with former SA Schools and U20 star Irne Herbst, featured for Quins.
