South Africa and New Zealand will go up against each other in The Rugby Championship once again this summer, as two tests have been scheduled to take place over the course of the next couple of weekends.
The contests have been rather tight affairs over the last few years between the two sides, however, the Springboks may feel that they have the upper hand for these next two clashes, given the recent form that has been experienced by the two sides.
As we know, form will not count for much when the two sides take to the rugby pitch, but it can provide a sense of confidence. As those that use Ignition Casino will know when playing their favorite casino games, there will be an element of luck that is required, with each contest perhaps requiring as much fortune as possible in order for one team to be as victorious as possible.
Let’s take a look at the upcoming clashes by providing you with everything you need to know about The Springboks and their most recent matches against the All Blacks, while also trying to make the best prediction about what might be about to come in the upcoming two tests as part of The Rugby Championship 2022.
South Africa vs New Zealand previous results
While previous results may not account for what may happen in the upcoming Tests, especially as there has been a year since the last time these nations clashed against each other, it can be a good indicator of what we could expect to see in both encounters that are scheduled to take place on August 6 and 13.
These are the last five results to have been recorded between the two sides:
LAST FIVE GAMES
- NZL 29-31 SA on 1st Oct, 2021
- NZL 19-17 SA on 24th Sep, 2021
- NZL 16-16 SA on 26th Jul, 2019
- SA 30-32 NZL on 5th Oct, 2018
- NZL 34-36 SA on 14th Sep, 2018
As can be seen, each contest has been incredibly close between both sides, with just a handful of points being the difference in each of the contests. Of course, there was also a 16-16 draw to have been recorded, too, thus highlighting just how tight things are between these sides.
It is interesting to note that the last time these two teams met in South Africa was back in 2018, and that ended in defeat for The Springboks. They will not want to endure a repeat this time around and it seems Handre Pollard has confirmed that as the team will continue to stick to the way they play.
Current form
As mentioned, South Africa will feel confident that they will be able to record victories over New Zealand in this upcoming Test series, with The Springboks in far better form than the All Blacks over the last six games.
The Springboks have been able to record four wins in their last six, although they did recently lose a contest against Wales 12-13. Nonetheless, they bounced back to win 30-14 a week later. Interestingly, the other defeat in the last six games was also by a point, as they were beaten 26-27 by England.
The All Blacks, though, have lost five of their last six games, with New Zealand having really struggled. Having played Ireland four times in the last six, they had only managed to win one of those contests; although that victory came via a large 42-19 victory. Otherwise, the team’s only other win came against Italy (47-9) in November 2021. Therefore, it should come as no surprise to learn that The Kiwis are desperate to bounce back.
Prediction
Indeed, it is perhaps rather easy to suggest at this moment that The Springboks are favorites to win the contest, despite the fact that they have had a poor record against New Zealand in recent years. Nonetheless, they have shown that they know what it takes to get the job done, with their last two defeats only being by a one-point differential.
New Zealand has been poor in recent games and it would seem there is pressure on Ian Foster’s shoulders as his job could potentially be on the line, but they will need to be at their very best if they are to come out of this Test series with a victory.
The Springboks should win these two Rugby Championship games, but we should not expect that to be a formality.
