The Lions fought back to close their Vodacom United Rugby Championship campaign on a high with victory over Dragons at Rodney Parade on Saturday.
Trailing the home side by four points at the interval, the Joburgers stunned the Welsh with two quick tries from Ruan Venter and Ruan Dreyer.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes, Rio Deyer dotted down for the hosts after Joe Maksymiw intercepted a Jordan Hendrikse long pass and put the right wing away.
Edwill van der Merwe pulled one back for the visitors, and Hendrikse added the extras, before Will Reed nailed two penalties to give Dragons an 11-7 lead into half time.
But, the Lions seized control after the break with Venter’s touchdown, which Hendrikse duly converted, and Dreyer barged over to increase their lead to 21-11.
Hendrikse almost gifted Dragons another score, Josh Lewis pouncing on his inside pass and racing away with Quan Horn on his heels, but Lewis fell short and knocked on.
Ivan van Rooyen’s men then dug in for their third win over a Welsh opponent in the URC this season.
