Pieter-Steph du Toit is fit and set to return for the Springboks as the world champions look to clinch the three-Test series against Wales in Bloemfontein on Saturday.

Bok assistant coach Deon Davids on Monday confirmed that Du Toit is available for the clash at Free State Stadium, after missing out on the 32-29 victory in Pretoria last Saturday due to injury.

The 29-year-old was the only injury concern going into the first Test at Loftus Versfeld, but has since fully recovered from shoulder surgery and is up for selection.

Franco Mostert deputised at blindside flank this past weekend, yet Du Toit is expected to take his place in a back row alongside captain Siya Kolisi and No 8 Jasper Wiese – who was named Man of the Match after the nail-biting thriller at Loftus – on Saturday.

But, with Evan Roos tipped to feature in the match-day 23 this week after the uncapped loose forward appeared at Monday’s media conference, one of Mostert, Kwagga Smith or last Saturday’s debutant Elrigh Rouw would be dropped.

In the buildup to a potential series decider for the Boks, Davids told media: “Pieter-Steph is available for selection this weekend [but] everyone will have to wait for our official team announcement on Tuesday so to get some new information in that regard.

“But as we’ve said before, it’s definitely our plan [to test out some new players], it’s just about when we’re going to make those selections and how we go about it.

“We’ve been quite open that we have a larger group and we’re looking at the big picture and towards the World Cup.

“But we’ve also got goals to win every Test match and it’ll be our approach to win every Test match, and we have a plan for each and every player within our squad.

“This being a series and not a knockout tournament, we’re looking at how we can execute that plan by building on our experience and depth in the squad while also still ensuring that we get a good result.”
