2021 winner Antoine Dupont and the Springboks’ Lukhanyo Am are joined by Ireland pair Jonny Sexton, a winner in 2018, and Josh van der Flier as nominees for the award.
Dupont captained Les Bleus to their first Six Nations title in more than a decade in March while skipper Sexton and flanker van der Flier guided their country to the top of the world rankings during 12 months where they claimed their first series win over New Zealand.

Am, who was in sensational form in the July series against Wales, is included despite playing just five of the Springboks’ 10 Tests so far this year due to injury.
The nominee list did not include Etzebeth, who has been spectacular playing in every Test this season and became the latest Springbok centurion in July.

All Blacks loose forward Savea was also surprisingly snubbed, despite playing a key role in New Zealand’s Rugby Championship title win under Ian Foster.
