After missing out on the opportunity in 2020, Mbombela Stadium could finally get to host a Test between the Springboks and All Blacks in 2022.
According to Rapport newspaper, SA Rugby’s plan will see the Rugby Championship fixture on 13 August awarded to Nelspruit.
Mbombela Stadium was originally meant to host the All Blacks in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on the Rugby Championship robbed it of that chance.
The Springboks have only played three Tests at the stadium, winning all three, but have never faced the All Blacks there.
The All Blacks will visit South Africa twice next year, with the first Test scheduled to be played at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on 6 August.
According to Rapport, SA Rugby is in talks with NZ Rugby to have a South Africa A team play against an All Blacks XV in midweek matches on 3 and 10 August.
The Springboks will host Wales in a three-Test series in July, with the fixtures played in Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Cape Town.
