Former Springbok coach Nick Mallett believes DHL Stormers flyhalf Manie Libbok may be the answer to the Springboks’ woes in the No 10 jersey, if they are able to adapt to his style of play.
The 25-year-old had another impressive performance against Edinburgh in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship in Cape Town on Saturday, and is likely to be a topic of conversation for national selectors this week.

Libbok scored 14 points against the Scottish visitors with a perfect performance off the tee, including a 40-metre penalty in the second half.
He also sidestepped and swerved to set up the bonus-point try for the Stormers after the hooter at Cape Town Stadium.
“You select players [for the Springboks] because of the qualities you see in the URC,” Mallett said on Supersport’s Final Whistle in his analysis of Libbok’s performance against Edinburgh. “If you want him to do what he does for the Springboks, you will have to tell the players around him to do what his teammates do in the franchise that he plays in.
“That’s the worry about Manie. If they pick him and tell him to kick the cover off the ball, he can do it but you will not be getting the most out of him.”

“The problem is that we have a template in the way we play and maybe there isn’t space at flyhalf for a guy who sees space and wants to play, especially when the other players don’t get into position.”
