Kurt-Lee Arendse’s try against England at Twickenham capped off an outstanding debut Test season for the diminutive Springbok winger, writes SIMON BORCHARDT.
Having just put the Springboks 6-3 ahead with a 31st-minute drop goal, flyhalf Damian Willemse collected an England kick just outside his 22, stepped Freddie Steward, and passed inside to Willie le Roux on the opposition 10m line.
The Bok fullback gained another 20m before drawing Jonny May and finding Arendse, who turned England flyhalf Marcus Smith inside out on his way to scoring his seventh try in seven Tests.
It brought back memories of Cheslin Kolbe’s famous try against England in the 2019 World Cup final in Japan when he stepped Owen Farrell.
The Boks went on to claim a 27-13 victory that saw them finish 2022 on a high and effectively end Eddie Jones’ seven-year stint as England coach.
