With a casualty list that reads like a battlefield fallout, Wales are now sweating over the availability of four 2021 British & Irish Lions tourists for the July series against the Springboks.
Wales prop Wyn Jones, who featured in the final Test for the Lions against the Boks last year, limped off with a serious knee injury while playing for Scarlets on Saturday.
Winger Josh Adams also faces a spell on the sidelines with a knee problem, while hooker Ken Owens’ ongoing back complaint seems likely to rule him out for the trip to South Africa.
Josh Navidi has been absent for Cardiff with a groin problem, and it’s touch and go whether the flank will be on the plane, too.
Wales coach Wayne Pivac already has several injury concerns ahead of the three-Test showdown with the world champions in SA, with Johnny McNicholl, George North, Leigh Halfpenny, Ross Moriarty (all knee), Christ Tshiunza, Willis Halaholo (both hamstring), Scott Williams, Justin Tipuric (both shouder) and Samson Lee (achilles) sidelined or in a race to be fit.
