Lions player cited for biting

British & Irish Lions prop Kyle Sinckler is the only player to have been cited (for biting) following this past Saturday’s second Test at Cape Town Stadium.

Sinckler will attend an independent disciplinary hearing after he was cited by Scott Nowland (Australia) for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.12 (biting) during the 64th minute of the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

However, this will come as a real surprise to many considering that there were serious question marks raised over an incident where it appeared Stuart Hogg may have also been guilty of biting.

There was another controversial moment where Maro Itoje knelt on the neck of Damian de Allende.

Some also felt that Cheslin Kolbe was rather fortunate to only receive a yellow card for playing Conor Murray in the air.

Meanwhile, Sinckler will attend a hearing via video conference before an independent judicial committee chaired by Adam Casselden SC (Australia), joined by former international players David Croft and John Langford (both Australia) on 3 August.

Following a full review of the match, World Rugby stated that there are no additional citings.
