The Lions are sweating injuries to playmakers Jordan Hendrikse and Henco van Wyk after a tryless defeat to Munster in Cork on Friday.
Flyhalf Hendrikse injured his ankle while outside centre Van Wyk came off with a knee problem in a 33-3 loss in the Vodacom Rugby Championship clash at Musgrave Park.
According to coach Ivan van Rooyen, both will be sent for scans in Paris on Sunday, in preparation for a European Challenge Cup rematch against Stade Francais next week.
REPORT: Munster maul luckless Lions
Speaking post-match, he said: “Jordan and Henco are pretty sore. We’re traveling for quite a long time [on Saturday] and the injuries have to settle a bit for about 48 hours, so that’s why we’re waiting a bit. We hope it’s not too bad.”
The Lions had some bright moments, particularly from their powerful scrum, on Friday night, but Munster showed greater accuracy when in sight of the line.
Liam Coombes scored a late bonus-point try for the hosts, who led 12-3 at half time before second-half tries from Paddy Patterson, Coombes and Scott Buckley.
HIGHLIGHTS: Bulls slay Dragons, Munster tame Lions
“We probably didn’t get the reward we deserved after that third repeated scrum,” said Van Rooyen.
“We felt we had ascendancy in that instance going forward and the decision probably proved a bit of a momentum-stopper. If we managed to score five or seven points there, we might’ve really put Munster under pressure.
“At stages we managed our territory, but on other occasions we overplayed a bit. Early in the second half we forced an attacking offload and ended up back in our own half, so the errors were expensive,” said Van Rooyen.
“We don’t really have the ability currently to capitalise on opposition mistakes or when we really create to turn it into points. We’re very disappointed with the result. It’s not nice against a good Munster team that’s really been in form.
“I didn’t feel like they were 30 points better than us given the talk in the changeroom, but they were very good in capitalising on their opportunities.”
