The Lions were on Friday forced to make a change to the starting lineup to host Scarlets on Sunday after Henco van Wyk was suspended for a dangerous tackle.
Van Wyk was named in the starting lineup to tackle the Welsh outfit at Ellis Park on Sunday afternoon, retaining his place in the side that beat Dragons last week.
However, the Lions confirmed late on Friday that the former Junior Springbok had been slapped with a three-week suspension for a tackle that earned him a yellow card in the first half against Dragons.
This means that Van Wyk will not only miss Sunday’s Vodacom United Rugby Championship Clash, but also the Lions’ first-ever Challenge Cup matches against Dragons and French outfit Stade Francais.
Van Wyk’s place in the No 13 jersey will be taken by Sango Xamlashe.
