Kolbe magic does it for Toulouse

Cheslin Kolbe played a leading role in Toulouse’s 22-14 win over Bordeaux in round 14 of the French Top 14 this past weekend.

– Log-leaders Lyon consolidated their place at the top with a workmanlike 27-12 win over Toulon. Locks Hendrik Roodt and Etienne Oosthuizen played for the winning team, while Eben Etzebeth started for Toulon. The Springbok lock was injured and substituted in the 29th minute, but returned to play before the break after he was cleared by the medics. Toulon are fifth on the log.

– La Rochelle came out on top in a riveting clash with Montpellier to record a 35-30 win. Flank Wiaan Liebenberg represented La Rochelle from the outset. Springboks Johan Goosen, Frans Steyn, Jan Serfontein, Handre Pollard and Bismarck du Plessis, as well as their compatriot Nico Janse van Rensburg boosted Montpellier’s starting team. Goosen and Janse van Rensburg scored a try each, while Pollard slotted two conversions and a penalty and Steyn a long-range penalty. Montpellier remain eighth on the table.

– Brive outlasted Pau to secure a 33-26 victory at home. Nico Lee was at outside centre for the hosts and Peet Marais at No 4 lock. Retief Marais came on as a second-half replacement at blindside flank. Prop Lourens Adriaanse anchored Pau’s scrum.

– Racing 92 overpowered a 14-man Castres to register a 27-0 triumph away from home. Centre Robert Ebersohn, scrumhalf Rory Kockott, prop Dan Kotze and hooker Jody Jenneker were in Castres’ run-on XV. Racing are now up to fourth in the standings and Castres are down to 12th.

– Stade Français, with scrumhalf James Hall in their ranks, slumped to a 29-19 defeat by Clermont. Stade remain rooted to the bottom of the log and Clermont are seventh.

– Another top performance from Johann Sadie has finally been rewarded when his beleaguered Agen side notched a nervy 23-20 win over Bayonne. Sadie scored one of Agen’s two tries to seal the much-needed victory. Lock Jeremy Jordaan had an eight-minute cameo for Agen.

– It was business as usual for Toulouse as their star player Cheslin Kolbe scored another superb try to guide them to a 22-14 win over Bordeaux. Lock Jandre Marais enjoyed a decent 65-minute shift, but unfortunately he was on the losing side. Toulouse are back up to fifth on the log.
