The Blitzboks overturned a five-point deficit to beat USA 28-10 in a crucial Pool A clash, reports JON CARDINELLI at Cape Town Stadium.
By kickoff, the Cape Town Stadium was near capacity. Cries of ‘Ole, ole, ole!’ rang out around the ground as the two form teams in Pool A took the field for an important match.
USA came into this fixture on the back of a win against Australia. The crowd fell silent after Maka Unufe took an inspired pass by Perry Baker and propelled the Americans into a 5-0 lead.
The Blitzboks did not panic. They held their defensive shape, and forced USA to make the mistake.
When a pass went to ground, Seabelo Senatla hacked it ahead. Cecil Afrika swooped on the loose ball, and a successful conversion earned the hosts the lead.
More good defence resulted in tries for the hosts. Werner Kok scored shortly before half-time, while Senatla crossed the line after the break.
Kok added his second try in the dying moments of the game to clinch the result.
