Kings lose lock to concussion

Irne Herbst is nursing a head injury which will likely rule him out of the Kings' last Super Rugby game against the Cheetahs in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Herbst was left concussed after suffering a knock to the head during the Kings' game against the Bulls in Pretoria last weekend. Kings team doctor, Konrad von Hagen, confirmed the lock's injury misfortune.

'We returned from Pretoria with only one injury concern. Our lock, Irne Herbst, suffered a concussion and will be following the usual return to play protocol,' said Von Hagen.

In better news for the Kings, lock Wilhelm van Sluys is likely to return to action this weekend, following the concussion injury he picked up a fortnight ago.

'Wilhelm is in the final phase of his return-to-play protocol. We will monitor him closely this week and make a final call on his availability later in the week,' Von Hagen added.

Both the Kings and Cheetahs are set to play their last-ever Super Rugby game when they meet at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, after both unions opted for a settlement with SA Rugby, and will now look to explore other international competition opportunities, widely believed to be Europe's Pro12.
