Kings claim Stormers scalp

Kings players celebrate Southern kings celebrate during the Guinness Pro14 match against the Ospreys
Published on January 17, 2020

The Kings upset the Stormers 13-3 in their friendly match in Knysna on Friday.

The Kings accepted this match to help them stay active during the two-week break in play in the PRO14, while the Stormers entered into this clash as part of their preparations for the arduous Vodacom Super Rugby season which kicks off in two weeks’ time.

With the rain bucketing down in Knysna, both teams initially struggled to make inroads. But it was the Kings who adapted the quickest of the two sides.

The Stormers were understandably a little rusty, especially considering the sudden turnaround in the weather – having gone from warm and sunny conditions in Cape Town to a wet and windy Knysna.

The Kings led 7-3 at the midway mark and extended that advantage with two second-half penalties for an unassailable 13-7 lead.

The Stormers take on the Sharks on SuperHero Sunday and the Kings’ next match is against the Cheetahs in Port Elizabeth on 25 January.
