Jantjies to lead Lions’ charge against Bulls

Flyhalf Elton Jantjies will captain the Lions in their SuperHero Sunday warm-up clash with the Vodacom Bulls in Soweto.

Lions coach Ivan van Rooyen has named two sides for their respective friendlies against a Bulls XV on Friday and the Bulls on Sunday.

In the first derby clash on Friday, lock Wilhelm van der Sluys will lead the team boasting the experienced halfback axis of Dillon Smit and Shaun Reynolds.

The talented Wandisile Simelane is at outside centre, with James Mollentze playing on his inside. Another star player, Carlu Sadie, starts at tighthead prop, with Nathan McBeth at loosehead and Marko Janse van Rensburg at hooker.

The Lions team for SuperHero Sunday is a well-balanced mix of experience and youth.

Captain Jantjies is partnered by scrumhalf Andre Warner, Dan Kriel and Duncan Matthews are the preferred midfield duo, Courtnall Skosan and Jamba Ulengo the wings with Tiaan Swanepoel playing fullback.

Up front, veteran prop Jannie du Plessis is joined in the front row by Dylan Smith and Pieter Jansen. Marvin Orie and Ruben Schoeman team up in the second row and No 8 Len Massyn will be flanked by Vincent Tshituka and Marnus Schoeman in the back row.

Tyron Green, Simelane, Cyle Brink, Manuel Rass, Sti Sithole and Roelof Smit all form part an the extended bench.
