Jacques du Plessis has undergone surgery on a broken jaw and will miss the remainder of the Bulls' Super Rugby season.
Du Plessis suffered the injury during the Bulls' 34-13 victory over Namibia in a friendly on Saturday.
He lasted just 11 minutes after breaking his jaw in two places following a crunching tackle from Namibian eighthman Renaldo Bothma.
The Bulls still have an outside chance of making it into the play-offs but will need to win win both of their remaining fixtures against the Stormers and the Rebels.
