Jacques Burger’s Perfect XV

Jacques Burger's Perfect XV
Published on January 6, 2023 | Leave a response

The former Namibia and Saracens loose forward goes All Black-heavy in picking a team of the best he played with and against.

15 Ben Smith
Ben was safe under the high ball, defended well and had the ability to beat defenders.

14 Bryan Habana
Bryan was so quick and the ball bounced right for him more often than not. He made game-changing plays.

MORE: Rudy Paige’s Perfect XV

13 Brian O’Driscoll
He was so well rounded, had a great rugby brain and the ability to create magic. Also very good at tackling at breakdowns and was an excellent defender.

12 Jonathan Davies
Jonathan is a big boy and tough to bring down. Always draws in a couple of defenders, which creates lots of space in which to attack, and is strong in defence.

11 Rupeni Caucaunibuca
A defender’s nightmare. Rupeni had incredible speed and the ability to run around or through the best of defenders. Scored unbelievable tries.

10 Beauden Barrett
Beauden is extremely dangerous on attack. He has serious speed, attacks the gainline hard and is tough to defend against off set pieces.

9 Conor Murray
He has the ability to control the game and has a well-rounded kicking game. He isn’t afraid to get stuck in physically when needed.

MORE: Sarel Pretorius’ Perfect XV

8 Kieran Read (c)
Kieran was a great leader. He was safe under the high ball, made few mistakes and his decision-making was spot on.

7 Richie McCaw
Richie was everywhere. His ability to slow the ball down was a dream for any defending team that likes being in the opposition’s faces. A real workhorse.

6 Juan Smith
Juan served as an extra lineout option and brought that intensity to a team. Very physical and a real competitor.

5 Brodie Retallick
He reads the lineouts well and has a great work ethic and rugby smarts.

4 Bakkies Botha
Bakkies brought physicality like no other. A giant of a man with just the right amount of dog.

MORE: Jano Vermaak’s Perfect XV

3 Owen Franks
He’s a great scrummager, gets around the pitch and hits loads of rucks. Very experienced too.

2 Dane Coles
Dane is dangerous with ball in hand and a great finisher. Always finds himself in the right place at the right time.

1 Mako Vunipola
Mako can scrum, play ball and has an incredible work rate. Doesn’t get rattled easily.
