Ahead of the Munster squad’s return to training next Monday, the club released the player profiles of their new signings, including South Africans Damian de Allende, RG Snyman and Keynan Knox.

Nine new players will be added to Munster’s senior squad, four (De Allende, Snyman, Matt Gallagher and Roman Salanoa) from other professional teams and five from the club’s academy.

Having arrived in Limerick earlier this month, South African Rugby World Cup winners De Allende and Snyman have followed all the necessary health-protocol measures and completed their respective two-week self-isolation periods.

Player profiles:

Damien de Allende

The 28-year-old centre joins Munster from the Panasonic Wild Knights in Japan after playing a leading role in South Africa’s 2019 World Cup-winning campaign.

Starting six of his seven appearances at the World Cup, he scored an important try in the semi-final win over Wales. His attacking form was matched by a physical defensive display as he made his presence felt at every stage with a huge work rate from midfield.

From Cape Town, he has made 47 appearances for the Springboks, scoring six tries. He previously ran out for the Stormers and was voted South African Super Rugby Player of the Year in 2015.

RG Snyman

The 25-year-old lock featured in every game of South Africa’s successful World Cup campaign, producing a man-of-the-match performance against Canada.

The imposing lock is highly regarded for his athleticism, ball-handling skills and towering presence in the lineout.

A product of the Vodacom Bulls, he has made 23 appearances for the Springboks and makes the move from Japanese club Honda Heat.

Keynan Knox

The 21-year-old prop has been promoted to the senior squad having joined the Greencore Munster Rugby Academy in 2018.

The South African native made eight senior appearances during his time in the academy and has also featured for Young Munster in the All Ireland League.
