Former Springbok centre Danie Gerber has opened up about his agonising battle against the coronavirus disease.
Gerber and his daughter Elani were diagnosed with Covid-19 in late March but both have recovered from the illness after a period in self-isolation.
Gerber’s wife, Elsabe, had since also tested positive for the coronovirus and hasn’t yet recovered.
Speaking to Netwerk24, the 62-year-old Gerber has revealed the excruciating pain he went through while fighting the virus.
‘I couldn’t even touch my body with my finger. It was extremely sore. Each person has their own symptoms, each person’s body is different,’ Gerber said.
‘Initially we heard sore throat, dry cough, fever and headaches were symptoms. But it’s not necessarily all these things together,’ he stressed.
Gerber added that Colin Beck, another former Springbok who tested positive for Covid-19, had different symptoms.
‘Colin [Beck], on the other hand, had a severe headache. He said the pain was so bad that it felt like he was getting a stroke.’
