The Springboks are reportedly weighing up whether to start Warrick Gelant or keep Lukhanyo Am on the right wing for the clash against the Wallabies in Adelaide on Saturday.
In the first of the Boks’ three-Test away leg of the Rugby Championship, the world champions will be without Cheslin Kolbe (broken jaw), Kurt-Lee Arendse (suspension) and Jesse Kriel (concussion), who alternated on the right wing against Wales and the All Blacks.
According to an article by Sunday newspaper Rapport, the Springbok coaches want to make ‘creative’ team selections in the matches against Australia and Argentina, with a view to the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

In line with that thinking, there is a temptation to continue with the backline combination that finished the Test against the All Blacks at Ellis Park. This means that Am – who moved from outside centre to replace Kriel early on – would continue at wing, while Damian Willemse and Damian de Allende would form a new-look midfield, with Willie le Roux at fullback.
The other options available to fill the Springbok No 14 jumper are Gelant or Canan Moodie.
Gelant made his first Test appearance since the 2019 World Cup at fullback against Wales in July, but is no stranger to playing down either the left or right wing.
The 19-year-old Moodie, who showed his capabilities at wing and fullback during a strong debut season for the Vodacom Bulls, was called up as a replacement for Arendse.
