Former Sharks chief executive Brian van Zyl has been elected as the new president of the KwaZulu-Natal Rugby Union (KZNRU).
This was confirmed during a virtual extraordinary general meeting of the KZNRU on Monday evening.
Van Zyl will take over from acting president Dr Lulu Bodla who had been automatically appointed to the position when then president Schalk Liebenberg vacated the position when he was elected on to the SA Rugby Board.
Bodla returns as the deputy president and both gentlemen will serve in their respective positions for three years.
‘Van Zyl was welcomed back with open arms after a successful run as the CEO of the Sharks and returns to the fold bringing with him a wealth of experience in rugby administration,’ the Sharks posted on their official website.
Van Zyl served as the Sharks’ chief executive between 1994 and 2013 before he was replaced by former Springbok and Sharks captain John Smit.
