Fiji clinch Pacific Nations Cup title

Fiji celebrate winning the Pacific Nations Cup Fiji
Published on June 16, 2018 | Leave a response

Fiji were crowned Pacific Nations Cup winners after beating Georgia 37-15 in Suva on Saturday.

Fiji have now won an unprecedented four consecutive Pacific Nations Cup titles and a record fifth overall since the tournament’s inception in 2006.

It was a closely fought affair in the first half, as Georgia matched the Fijians for intensity and even managed to hold a five-point lead at the break. But the hosts produced a surging second-half display to take the game away from Georgia and secure the title.

Scrumhalf Henry Seniloli scored a brace in the space of three minutes for Fiji, but Georgia responded with two tries of their own, coupled with a conversion and a penalty from Soso Matiashvili to take a 15-10 advantage at the midway mark.

It was one-way traffic after the resumption as Fiji upped the ante and reduced the visitors to bystanders.

The hosts ran in four unanswered tries – two by scrumhalf Frank Lomani, one by centre Jale Vatubua and one from Test debutant Semi Radradra – to end any hopes Georgia had of causing an upset.

Fiji – Tries: Henry Seniloli (2), Frank Lomani (2), Jale Vatubua, Semi Radradra. Conversions: Nemani Nadolo (2). Penalty: Nadolo.
