SARugbymag.co.za readers have voted Evan Roos, not Bok hardman Duane Vermeulen, as South Africa’s best No 8.
In a poll run after Vermeulen was rated as one of the standout players in his position this year, 41% championed Roos over the 2019 World Cup hero, who was backed by just 28% of the voters.
Hot on the 36-year-old’s heels with 26% was Jasper Wiese, while Elrigh Louw brought up the rear with 6%.
Known for his big hits and brutal physicality, Ulster-based Vermeulen was omitted from SA’s end-of-year tour to Europe, and Roos, Wiese and Louw are on the shortlist to succeed him in the Bok No 8 jersey.
