Fans give new Bok jersey the boot

Springbok fans have had their say on the team’s new limited-edition ‘African imprint’ jersey, which will be worn in one of the three Tests during the November tour of the United Kingdom.

The Springboks’ official jersey sponsor, Asics, announced that the team will wear the new jersey in one of the three Tests against either Wales, Scotland or England.

It is not the first time that the Springboks have donned a unique jersey. They did the same in 2017 when they used a red jersey as the team’s away kit.

A poll run by SARugbymag.co.za asked supporters to compare the newly designed kit to other unique jerseys donned by nations and clubs.

Among the options were the Vodacom Bulls’ khaki green and brown camouflage away kit for the 2014 Super Rugby season, the Stormers’ self-manufactured home shirt in 2018, Stade Francais’ 2007 jersey and the Namibia Eagles RFC’s ‘cow’-print shirt.

However, it was the new Springbok jersey that was far and away chosen as the most shocking, earning 41% of fans’ votes.

That was followed by the Namibia RFC and Stade Francais kits, with each getting just over 17% of the vote.

The Stormers’ 2018 kit was the most liked of all eight on the list, as only 1,72% of fans chose it as the worst designed.
