Former Springbok loose forward Thando Manana is in strong contention to become one of SA Rugby’s two new CEOs.
Manana, who played in three midweek matches for the Boks on the 2000 end-of-year tour, resigned as general manager of the Eastern Province Rugby Union in May before joining the Vodacom Bulls as special projects and head of high-performance manager.
Current SA Rugby CEO Jurie Roux will leave the role on 31 December due to his court battle with Stellenbosch University.
According to Rapport newspaper, Roux will get a payout from SA Rugby and continue to work for the organisation as a consultant. This will include finalising the agreement with SA Rugby’s new international equity partner, CVC, which will also have a big say in the appointments of the two CEOs.
Along with Manana, Sharks CEO Eduard Coetzee and Bulls CEO Edgar Rathbone are considered strong candidates for the positions.
