Coach Jake White has described the Bulls’ masterclass in the Currie Cup final as “close to a perfect performance”.

The Bulls utterly outplayed the Sharks at Loftus in the title decider on Saturday, clinching a 22nd successive win at home, while also recording the biggest winning margin in a Currie Cup final.

The 44-10 result ultimately surpassed the previous best victory margin of 30 points.

Afterwards, a visibly emotional White credited his “young” team for their composure and all-round class.

“That was probably close to perfect performance, based on the fact that we took chances when they were given to us. When questions were asked of us, we made the right reads,” said the Bulls’ director of rugby.

“We didn’t give any soft penalties away. I think we actually only gave away two off-side penalties the whole game, so as coaches we’re never really happy. But to be honest, that is how you play rugby. That’s how you create massive amounts of confidence and cohesion.

“It can only get better from here too, that’s the great thing about it.”

After the match, captain Marcell Coetzee described the Bulls’ win as one of the greatest moments of his life.

White also shared what Coetzee had told him immediately after the final.

“He was just saying that there were times when we were just so composed and in sync. He just got the feeling that all 15 men on that field managed to make consistent right calls on attack and defence,” he said.

“It’s nice to know that the team is cultivating that habit. I’m not trying to take anything away from anyone, but we still have a very young team – front rowers, locks, hookers. To get that feedback about everyone being on par and in control is very pleasing.”
