Edinburgh are determined to make this an unbeaten tour of South Africa by following up Saturday’s win against the Sharks with a victory against the Lions.
Flyhalf Blair Kinghorn crossed for two tries as the Scottish side punished a sloppy Sharks performance 21-5 in torrential rain at Kings Park on Saturday.
The result marked the first home loss for a South African team in 10 Vodacom United Rugby Championship matches in the Republic, as Edinburgh bounced back from losing against Glasgow while the Sharks surrendered a four-game hot streak.
Mike Blair’s Edinburgh are set to close out their two-game trip to SA against the Lions, who are riding high after demolishing Ospreys 45-15 on Friday.
“I’m extremely proud of the boys, that was a complete squad effort, everyone was so up for that game,” Edinburgh loose forward Ben Muncaster said on a club video.
“The management was really good, they were a tough team but we stuck in there and put in a full 80-minute performance, which was vital.
“The Sharks are known for being extremely good in the last 20. There were a couple of games where they were down after 60 minutes against northern hemisphere sides and in last 20 they just go away with it.
“We are really, really happy with this result but we are going straight to the next game. This is a two-game tour, this isn’t finished. The Lions are an extremely good side and it’s extremely hard playing in high altitude in Johannesburg.”
