Eddie Jones is reportedly not interested in returning home to coach the Wallabies, his recent experience Down Under having left a sour taste in the mouth.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, sources have revealed that Jones is “disenchanted with Australian rugby” and will consider “other opportunities” once he steps down as England head coach after the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Rugby Australia is understood to have been weighing up a surprise move to reappoint Jones, who previously coached the Wallabies between 2001 and 2005, and guided his countrymen to the 2003 Rugby World Cup final in Australia.

But, sources close to the 62-year-old said he was “wounded” by the “traitor” sledges after England’s series win at the Sydney Cricket Ground – and broader crowd abuse – when on tour in Australia.

“He was also stunned by the diminished public profile of rugby in Australia, even since his last tour in 2016,” an insider said.

The Australian, who will vacate his role as England boss after eight years at the helm, has already been linked with several jobs including Racing 92 and the USA Eagles.
