On 21 July 2012, Frederic Michalak shone with the boot as the Sharks outscored the Reds three tries to one in a thrilling Super Rugby qualifier in Brisbane.

Michalak put in a flawless display, landing all his conversions, two penalties and a drop goal for a haul of 15 points, while JP Pietersen, Paul Jordaan and Charl McLeod crossed the whitewash for the Durbanites at Suncorp Stadium.

Leading 20-3 after 30 minutes, the Sharks then outdefended the Reds to upset the hosts 30-17 and set up a semi-final showdown against the Stormers in Cape Town.
