On 25 July, 1998, Pieter Rossouw gutted the All Blacks with a defence-splitting try to clinch the Springboks a famous win in Wellington.
Nick Mallett’s Boks recorded 17 consecutive wins between 1997 and 1998, a record-equalling run that included this victory in New Zealand.
Rossouw’s late strike was decisive in the famous 13-3 win for South Africa at Athletic Park.
The game was still in the balance in the 70th minute when the Boks won a scrum deep in the All Blacks 22. Joost van der Westhuizen looped round flyhalf Henry Honiball and drew the All Blacks defenders across the field.
Honiball dummied the scrumhalf and popped the ball to Rossouw, who flew through the gap to score under the posts and take the game away from the All Blacks.
