Angelo Davids marked his return to the sevens circuit with the winning try as the Blitzboks claimed a thrilling opening win over Argentina at the London Sevens on Saturday.
An exhilarating encounter between the two teams heading up the overall Sevens Series table gave South Africa a 26-19 victory.
The Blitzboks went into half time leading 14-7 after Dewald Human’s opening try and a moment of magic from Muller du Plessis just before the break.
James Murphy pounced on an error from Argentina off the kick-off to extend the lead to 12 points straight after half time.
However, Argentina were able to bring star man Marcos Moneta into the game and the wing had to much gas on the outside and scored to cut the deficit. A missed tackle from Impi Visser then allowed German Schultz break through and level the scores at 19-19.
The Blitzboks then turned to Angelo Davids, recalled to the squad after playing for Western Province in the Currie Cup. He made an immediate impact, gathering Ronald Brown’s kick behind the Argentina defence and scoring the winning try.
