The SA Rugby magazine team identifies the standout South African players based on performances throughout the 2021 Currie Cup campaign.
The 2021 Currie Cup season will conclude this weekend, with a repeat of the 2020 final between the Bulls and Sharks in Pretoria.
Unsurprisingly, the Bulls dominate this year’s team of the season, with a total of seven players representing the defending champions. This includes centre Cornal Hendricks, flyhalf Johan Goosen – who was influential in his first season with the team – and flank Elrigh Louw.
Semi-finalists Griquas have also been rewarded for their exceptional campaign, with wing Eduan Keyter and flank Gideon van der Merwe both making the cut.
There is also space for players from teams that did not make the semi-finals, including Pumas hooker Simon Westraadt, who scored eight tries in the campaign, Lions wing Rabz Maxwane and Cheetahs scrumhalf Ruan Pienaar.
