Brumbies scrumhalf Tomás Cubelli is set to miss the start of the Super Rugby season after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's warm-up match against the Waratahs.

Cubelli ruptured his patellar tendon in the 37th minute of the game in Mudgee, which the Brumbies went on to lose 53-17.

On Monday the Brumbies confirmed Cubelli will undergo corrective surgery later in the week which will keep the 27-year-old sidelined for a couple of months.

Cubelli's injury comes two weeks after fellow Argentinan scrumhalf Martín Landajo was also ruled out of the opening stages of Super Rugby due to a broken leg.
